It has been awhile since I’ve written. I’ve picked up some things, and tried some things.
I have a stir fry sauce that works quite nice in a stir fry. No surprise there. Just adds a nice traditional flavor to it.
Do not use a marinade as a sauce for a stir fry. Its ok for a marinade – in the bag. But when I make a stir fry its a bit of this sauce and a bit of that sauce. Some sesame oil (not a fan of peanut oil), some soy sauce or teriyaki sauce, and that stir fry sauce I mentioned above. I’ve got a teriyaki marinade. Do not use that for a stir fry sauce. It is far too sweet and caramelizes on the wok and is a pain to get off.
Teriyaki pineapple chicken is quite good as a stir fry.
Getting four heirloom peppers as a package are delicious, but I don’t eat them fast enough before one or two of them go bad. I now go for two ‘normal’ peppers. One red, one orange or yellow, or sometime a green.
Bratwurst is a nice fast thing to eat.
I had some beef that I didn’t freeze fast enough before. I put it in the freezer before vacuum sealing it, then thawed it, then sealed it. This is bad.
Hillshire farms chicken breasts are much less expensive than the Safeway organic in cost per pound. However, the pieces appear to be much larger. One Safeway chicken breast is about right (1/4 to 1/3 pound) while the Hillshire farm breasts are 1/2 a pound each. Its already sealed and in the freezer, though next time I’ll have to see about cutting it in half before then, or maybe go for the breast tenders instead (I’ll have to compare those prices)… or be sure to get the smaller ones.
I have a pear sesame vinaigrette that claims to be good on a salmon steak. I’ll probably give it a try soon.
